Rumble at the River

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

Cedric the Hitman chopping Death EaterWith front row seats in hand I entered Pro Wrestling Beyond's Rumble at the River last Saturday night at the Wenatchee Convention Center. After a short wait the show began. An announcer talked about the upcoming events of the evening before the intro music began and the first two wrestlers appeared. Pointy Ninja and the Masked Burlap entered the arena. Pointy Pirate was going to defend his title as the Feather Weight Champion and Masked Burlap was in his corner.
Dash Venture coming off the ropes but it looks like he is going to missDeath EaterThe opponent he was supposed to face was a no show, but that was okay because they had found a replacement. The intro music began and a loud mouth pirate entered the arena. I didn't quite catch his name but I think it was Petey the Pirate. The pirate was much bigger than Pointy Ninja and they told the referee they wanted him to weigh in. In fact, they had brought a scale with them to the ring. The pirate was quickly gaining the audiences favor with his antics before he finally stepped on the scale and the referee confirmed that this very large man weighed in at a clean one hundred thirty pounds. After some booing from the crowd the match begin.

The evening continued on in this fashion. The crowd was not shy and were more than willing to let the wrestlers know their thoughts. The action was more intense than I expected from such a small event. Ringside was literally ringside and more than once the audience, including myself, had to jump back as the wrestlers would come flying out of the ring.

Dash Venture choking Jimmy FlameI found myself wincing as the wrestlers would come down onto the mat with thunderous effect. Many of the children in the audience looked generally concerned for the wrestlers as they would struggle to recover from powerful bodyslams and piledrivers. The children weren't the only ones that looked concerned, I also was concerned, you could see that some of the wrestlers had some pretty painful wounds. Paramedics were on standby, but no major injuries occured.

Some highlights of the show was a tables match where a mirror was broken over a wrestlers head before another went crashing into a table. The Lucha Style Match had the best high flying acrobatics of the night. The villain of the night was Dash Venture, who the audience just couldn't get enough of. The best entrance of the night, in my opinion, goes to Death Eater. Jimmy Flame put on a good show and Cedric the Hitman won the Heavy Weight Battle, although Dash and his buddies had a hand in that.

Breakneck coming off the rope The entire event lasted three and a half hours and was well worth the price of admission. Breakneck almost getting his neck broke
Cedric nailing Bolo Hoss Tull choking out Dr. Kleaver, giving him a taste of his own medicine
Azul Angel slamming Breakneck to the mat in their Lucha Style Match About to go through the table
